Bill Goldberg is an American professional
wrestler and former NFL player that first began
his wrestling career with WCW in 1997. Four
years Goldberg spent with WCW, when the
promotion was bought out by the WWE in 2001
though, Goldberg was injured, and as such the
WWE did not buy out his contract.
Returning from injury, Goldberg went on to
wrestle for the All Japan Pro Wrestling
promotion, before finally joining the WWE in
2003. He spent just one year with the promotion
though, and since then has been concentrating
more on his acting career rather than wrestling.
Frequently linked with TNA; Goldberg is yet to
join the promotion, but has suggested that with
the right contract, he would wrestle for the
promotion.
Goldberg has been a hugely
successful wrestler all throughout his career,
and ever since leaving American football and
becoming a professional wrestler; he has had
huge success in the sport. Quickly becoming a
huge name in the WCW, as soon as Goldberg's
wrestling career was started he was already a
massive name.
A two time WCW United
States Heavyweight Champion, Goldberg also won
the World Heavyweight Championship during his
time with the promotion, and the WCW World Tag
Team Championship also. A tag team champion with
Bret Hart, Goldberg has always been a hugely
impressive wrestler, and during his time in the
sport has never disappointed with his matches.
Goldberg's fitness is phenomenal, and his
matches also truly are a joy to behold.
During his time in Japanese wrestling; Goldberg
continued to perform to a very high standard,
and it was actually his fantastic performances
in Japan which led to interest from the WWE.
Starting a rivalry with Triple H not long after
entering the promotion, Goldberg was after the
WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and finally
got his hands on it through defeating Triple H
at Unforgiven 2003. He lost it at Armageddon,
but at least he held it for a while. The
Heavyweight Championship was to be Goldberg's
only belt during his time with the WWE.
A
special guest star on Hulk Hogan's Celebrity
Championship Wrestling in 2008, Goldberg has not
wrestled for any promotions since leaving the
WWE in 2004, and although he has, as I say been
linked with TNA; he's yet to feature for the
promotion, and right now there's just no telling
as to whether or not Goldberg's wrestling career
will ever be revived. It would be brilliant to
see Goldberg return to the ring, but it's been
nearly five years now, and the longer Goldberg
goes without making a real return to the sport;
the less likely it looks to ever actually
happen.
A great wrestler and a fantastic
performer; Bill Goldberg is a brilliant
wrestler, and will no doubt be remembered by
fans of the sport for the fantastic performances
that he put in during his seven year spell in
wrestling between 1997 and 2004. He wasn't in
the sport for long; he had a huge impact in
wrestling though, and if he never again returns
to wrestle for a promotion; he will be sorely
missed.
