John Morrison profile written by Dusty Davis
“Extreme Delight”
Before becoming the New Face Of Extreme, John
Morrison attended the University of California
at Davis, studying film and geology. He was born
John Randall Hennigan on October 3, 1979, but
instead of following either one of his college
paths, he decided to become a professional
wrestler. Hennigan trained at the Supreme Pro
Wrestling, wrestling school, before co-winning
WWE Tough Enough 3 in 2002 with Matt Cappotelli.
He was awarded a WWE Developmental contract with
Ohio Valley Wrestling and made his WWE
television debut with Cappotelli in a tag team
match on Sunday Night Heat in January 2004.
On March 1, 2004 he was introduced as Johnny
Blaze, the assistant to Eric Bischoff who was
the Raw General Manager at the time. A week
later his name was changed to Johnny Spade and
then changed again to Johnny Nitro three weeks
later.
At the beginning of June, Nitro lost a match to
Eugene, and was fired due to a pre match
stipulation. He was sent back to OVW, where he
formed the tag team MNM with Joey Mercury and
their valet Melina Perez. Nitro and Mercury won
the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship on
November 14, 2004 from Mac Johnson and Seth
Skyfire and held the belts for two months.
MNM was called up to the Smackdown roster in
April 2005 and went on to defeat Eddie Guerrero
and Rey Mysterio for the WWE Tag Team titles on
the April 21st edition of Smackdown. They
dropped the belts to the Legion Of Doom three
months later at the Great American Bash. MNM was
named PWI Tag Team of the year for 2005 and went
on to win the WWE Tag titles two more times that
year. They won the straps the last time on
December 30, 2005 by defeating Batista and Rey
Mysterio. At Judgment Day 2006, MNM lost the
belts to Paul London and Brian Kendrick and in a
surprising turn of events, Nitro and Melina
turned on Mercury after the match, but were
later fired by the Smackdown General Manager,
Theodore Long.
Nitro accompanied by Melina showed up on Raw a
week later and was immediately thrown into the
Intercontinental Championship picture, winning
it for the first time on June 25, 2006 at
Vengeance in a Triple Threat Match. He held the
strap for almost four months before losing it to
Jeff Hardy. The Guru Of Greatness beat Hardy for
the gold on November 11 in a no DQ match, but
lost it back to Hardy a week later on the 13th
in Manchester England.
Johnny Nitro was drafted to ECW at the beginning
of 2007 and made his debut by defeating Nunzio.
At Vengeance he became The New Face Of Extreme
by winning the vacant ECW Championship by
beating CM Punk. On July 17th Nitro changed his
name to John Morrison and continued his feud
with Punk, having great match, after great
match, before finally dropping the title to him
on the September 4th edition of ECW on Sci-Fi in
Cincinnati, Ohio.
Morrison was suspended for thirty days for
failing the WWE Talent Wellness Program but came
back with a vengeance by winning the WWE Tag
Team titles with The Miz on November 13, 2007.
The new champs wrestled Punk for the ECW title
at the Survivor Series in a Triple Threat Match,
but Punk overcame the challengers.
The Miz and Morrison continued to take on
all-comers for the tag belts and managed to hold
them until the Great American Bash on July 20,
2008. Either one of the champs were pinned when
they lost the titles to Curt Hawkins and Zack
Ryder in the Fatal Four Way match.
I think that The Shaman Of Sexy could be a top
contender for whatever title that he wants in
ECW, weather it be the ECW Title or the Tag
Titles with The Miz. John Morrison truly is the
Tuesday Night Delight and I expect great things
to come from him.
