KURT ANGLE PROFILE |
Kurt Angle profile written by Wayne K.
Wilkins
Kurt Angle is without a doubt one of the most
gifted athletes in the history of professional
wrestling, as well as the only wrestler in
history to win an Olympic Gold Medal with a
broken neck. Kurt Angle made his professional
wrestling debut for the World Wrestling
Federation in the year of 1999, one-year after
signing a five-year contract and three years
onward from his failed stint in Extreme
Championship Wrestling. His first match was a
victory over second generation superstar Shawn
Staziak; son of the late Stan Staziak, at the
1999 Survivor Series.
Kurt Angle has
achieved much success in his chosen sport, being
a multiple time world heavyweight champion in
both current major organisations: the World
Wrestling Entertainment and Total-Nonstop Action
Wrestling. Kurt is very much recognised for his
wrestling background in both college and the
Olympic games. After arriving in global
wrestling, he quickly became recognised as an
amazing prospect for the future and remained
undefeated for a long time before losing to the
debuting Tazz of Extreme Championship Wrestling
fame in what was an epic battle of technicality.
While recognised mainly for his in-ring
work, Angle is just as entertaining on the
microphone. He simply oozes charisma from his
very pours; the comedy angles that he has been
apart of over the years that he has been a
professional in the world of wrestling have been
simply unmatched. From singing and dancing to
chasing people around the arena in nothing more
than an orange speedo. What more can you ask for
in a wrestler than charisma AND talent? Kurt
Angle has it all; he is simply a total package.
Kurt Angle's first World Heavyweight Title
run came to pass during a long and heated feud
with then WWF champion, Dwayne "The Rock"
Johnson, in which Kurt Angle eventually defeated
The Rock and claimed his first WWF Championship
in what was known as a risky move by WWE to push
a newcomer on the belt so fast, but given the
reaction to Angle's victory as well as the
attention he was garnishing under his name, it
was evidently the right move to make and Angle
in turn started the path of a long reign as WWF
Champion.
In 2001, Kurt Angle played a
major role in "The Alliance" angle in which the
World Wrestling Federation had legitimately
bought out the competition; the competition
being World Championship Wrestling. This
resulted in WCW and ECW joining forces and
becoming known as "The Alliance" under the
ruling of ECW owner Paul Heyman; better known as
Paul E. Dangerously, as well as Shane McMahon
and Stephanie McMahon. The trio then pit their
alliance forces in battle against the World
Wrestling Federation superstars in what was
widely seen as an angle which had so much
potential, but which was evidently a let down.
Kurt Angles role however was the one that
put the nail in the coffin of WCW and ECW; being
a member of team alliance in the 2001 survivor
series. It was Kurt Angle defecting back to the
WWF that dealt that final blow to the head of
the alliance, giving the WWF the victory in the
process and putting an end to the WCW and ECW.
Today, Kurt Angle can be seen in Total
Non-stop Action Wrestling where he is the
current, reigning and defending World
Heavyweight Champion. He has recently re-ignited
his feud with Samoa Joe, a feud which produced
three epic battles back when Kurt Angle first
entered the company in 2006. The next match in
the series is to take place at TNA Lockdown for
the World Heavyweight Championship in which
Samoa Joe has stated, if he loses, he will leave
TNA. With everything at stake, does Kurt Angle
have what it takes to put away Samoa Joe? Will
Joe's allies of Christian Cage and Kevin Nash
play apart or will Angle's Alliance of Tomko and
AJ Styles prevent them? Time will tell!
No matter which organisation he wrestles in, one
thing stays a constant. Kurt Angle is a TRUE
wrestling machine. He is without a doubt one of
the most gifted professional wrestlers to ever
take part in our sport as well as one of the
most entertaining. There is only ONE Kurt Angle;
and that man is simply irreplaceable. Oh, it's
real. It's DAMN real!
